01/04/09 - Alan Shearer set to return to St James Park as manager
Newcastle United have appointed Alan Shearer as their manager, in the enforced absence of Joe Kinnear, until the end of the season. The Magpies are currently languishing in the Premier League relegation zone, 2 points from safety, and Shearer will be their fourth manager in what has been a troubled season. His first match in charge will be Newcastle United's Premier League fixture at home to Chelsea this Saturday.

Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear will undergoe triple heart bypass surgery on Friday afterwhich he is expected to rest for at least two months. Kinnear's assistant Chris Hughton will take charge of the team during this period of time.

07/02/09 - Newcastle United manager taken to hospital
Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear was taken to hospital after feeling unwell overnight prior to the Magpies match against West Brom at the Hawthorns. Tests carried out on the 62 year old showed him to be 'okay' according to the BBC website which also reports a club spokeman saying "He will remain in hospital for observation for a couple of days and will then be discharged."

20/01/09 - Newcastle United manager charged by the FA
Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has been charged with improper conduct along with Hull City boss Phil Brown following their touchline altercation during an FA Cup third round match on 14 January '09. A late tackle by Newcastle's Fabio Coloccini on Hull's Daniel Cousin sparked the incident which resulted in both managers being sent to the stands, they now have until 03 February to answer the charge.

Newcastle United winger Charles N'Zogbia has expressed his wish to leave the club, he told L'Equipe: "I'm at a turning point in my career, My agents are talking with Tottenham and Villa and, from what they've told me, Arsenal could also be in the frame" he also added� "I have a preference for the Gunners but they are three great clubs".

07/01/09 - Martins suffering with a Hernia
Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins will undergo a Hernia operation on Monday which will see him sidelined for a few weeks. The 24 year old Nigerian will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Alan Shearer and Michael Owen when he travels to Germany to be operated on by Dr Muschaweck.

16/12/08 - New contract offer to Michael Owen
Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has been offered a contract by the club in order to extend his stay with them beyond next summer. The 29 year old's current contract runs out at the end of this season at which time he will become a free agent and could leave the club without them recouping any of the £17million they paid Real Madrid for him back in 2005.

28/11/08 - Kinnear signs deal to stay at Newcastle United
Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has signed a contract which will see him remain at the club until the end of the season as owner Mike Ashley continues to try to sell the club. Kinnear said "ever since I came to Newcastle, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience", adding that he will have money to spend in the January transfer window and will have the final say on the players that come in.

17/11/08 - Barton sidelined for up to eight weeks
Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton is expected to be out for as long as two months after suffering damage to his knee ligaments during the 2-2 draw with Wigan on Saturday. The injury came from a challenge with Lee Catermole after 17 minutes of the match and just adds to the list of problems Barton has faced since joining Newcastle United, many of which have been self inflicted.

Newcastle United interim manager Joe Kinnear will sign an extension to his short term contract with the Magpies, his original term was due to run out after Tuesday's match against West Brom, but, he will now remain with the club for a further month whilst talks about the sale of the club continue.

Newcastle United have been successful in their appeal against the red card shown to Habib Beye during their 2-2 home draw against Manchester City. The Senegalese defender was shown the red card by referee Rob Styles for fouling Robinho in the penalty area but television replays showed that he won the ball and the football association upheld his claim for wrongful dismissal.

21/10/08 - Magpies to appeal Beye sending off
Newcastle United will appeal against the dismissal of Habib Beye last night during their 2-2 home draw against Manchester City. The Senegalese defender was shown the red card by referee Rob Styles for apparently fouling Brazilian Robinho in the penalty area, however,television replays showed that he appeared to win the ball. Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear said: "It was hard to call, but like all of us, referees make mistakes. Thankfully TV shows he got the ball", he added, "he is such an honest kid, the lad who made the tackle. He said to me, 'Gaffer, I swear to God, I got the ball first'.
